Kenny Clark Recommits to Green Bay Packers with Lucrative Extension
The Green Bay Packers have solidified their defensive front by securing Kenny Clark through 2026 with a three-year contract extension valued at $64 million. This move keeps the Pro Bowl defensive tackle at the heart of the Packers' defense, providing both stability and continued excellence on the field.
Averting a Financial Squeeze
The extension significantly alleviates a critical financial pinch for the Packers. Clark, who was poised to burden the team’s salary cap with a $27.5 million hit, will instead collect $29 million in 2024. This restructure not only rewards Clark’s persistence and production but also strategically addresses the team's financial optics. Clark's previous contract, laden with three void years, would have resulted in a substantial $13.75 million dead cap charge in 2025, further validating the extension as a fiscally sensible move.

Clark’s recent performance justifies the Packers’ investment. In 2023, he showcased a career peak by racking up 7.5 sacks, nine tackles for loss, and 16 quarterback hits. A model of consistency, Clark has missed just one game over the past three seasons, consistently recording at least four sacks annually from his position at the nose tackle. His relentless performance has earned him three Pro Bowl appearances, including in 2023.
“He’s a pro’s pro. He takes care of his body, puts the right things first, and the main thing is the main thing for Kenny. He loves football. To play as long as he has at the level that he has, you got to love it, and he certainly loves football. He is an unselfish team guy. He is all about winning, and he is the exact example of guys you want in that locker room,” said Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst.

Clark's influence extends beyond his on-field prowess. Head Coach Matt LaFleur highlighted Clark’s leadership during the offseason and his unwavering reliability on game days.
“Kenny is the model of consistency in everything he does. His approach, obviously he was participating here all offseason, and just the work he puts in. He has guys with him out in California and helping those young guys along. You can always count on him each and every Sunday. I’m really happy, ecstatic that we got that done. I think that guys are fired up for him as well,” LaFleur remarked.
LaFleur also expressed optimism about Clark’s adaptability and potential for growth. “I think he’s good in any system. Hopefully there's more out there for him. I think he still has room to continue to grow, but I love the fact that we got that done, and that he'll be out there with us,” he added.

Clark’s new deal, which averages approximately $21.3 million annually, places him as the 12th-highest paid defensive tackle in the league, underscoring the Packers' recognition of his elite status. Gutekunst underscored Clark's integral role in the team’s future plans. “He is the model player that you kind of want to build a program around. Obviously, he is a great player. He has been as consistent as you could ever imagine. We're just really excited to be able to extend him and let him lead that group for the foreseeable future,” he stated.
