The Dallas Cowboys have made a significant move by signing four-time Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook, a transaction that has sent ripples through the NFL community. This strategic acquisition comes at a crucial time for the Cowboys, who are keen to boost their offensive firepower.
Dalvin Cook Joins the Ranks
Dalvin Cook, who recently played for both the New York Jets and the Baltimore Ravens during the 2023 season, brings a wealth of experience and a track record of success. Cook amassed 5,238 rushing yards and 43 touchdowns since 2019, earning Pro Bowl honors in four out of his last five years with the Minnesota Vikings. He is also the Vikings' third all-time leading rusher with 5,993 yards and has consistently performed at a high level, rushing for at least 1,135 yards in each of his Pro Bowl seasons from 2019 to 2022.
Having undergone shoulder surgery rehab during the 2024 offseason, Cook worked out for Dallas on Tuesday. Impressed with his conditioning and readiness, the Cowboys moved swiftly to add him to their roster, initially placing him on the practice squad. Jerry Jones, owner and general manager of the Cowboys, expressed his satisfaction with the signing, stating, "He’s initially on the practice squad, gives him a chance to get in here and learn the system."

However, red zone efficiency was an area marked for improvement, with the team converting only 56.3% of their opportunities. Jones indicated that Cook’s addition is a step towards bolstering their red zone performance. "We needed to have improvement, especially in that red zone, needed to have improvement getting in that end zone with that running game. This all bolsters that up. I’m really pleased with where we are right now at running back," Jones asserted.
Alongside Dalvin Cook, the Cowboys' running back roster includes Rico Dowdle, Ezekiel Elliott, Deuce Vaughn, and fullback Hunter Luepke.
